Biblical Doctrines in the Light of the Gospel

Lesson 13: The Godhead
According to Scripture, all three members of the Godhead are intimately involved in the redemption of mankind. The Father oversees the plan of salvation, the Son is the Savior of mankind, and the Holy Spirit communicates that salvation to the human race. In this study, we will discover what the Bible teaches about the persons of the Godhead and their united effort in saving fallen humanity.

Lesson 14: The Doctrine of Creation
One of the great issues facing the Christian Church today has to do with the Biblical account of creation as recorded in Genesis. Ever since Charles Darwin published his book, The Origin of Species, in 1859, the idea that this world was created by God in six literal days has been challenged by the Theory of Evolution.

Lesson 14 (Supplement): In the Beginning....
In Lesson 14 we saw that the Bible clearly teaches that God made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six literal days (Exodus 20:11). This explanation of the origin of the cosmos is referred to as Biblical creation or Creation Science. At the other end of the spectrum, the Big Bang Theory proposes that billions of years ago, the whole universe was contained within a volume the size of an atomic nucleus. Let’s take a look now at a discussion between Ken (a Biblical creationist) and Charles (an evolutionist).

Lesson 15: Entering God's Rest
The universal sin problem has inflicted mankind with guilt and shame, causing much distress and restlessness. It is for this reason Christ gave this invitation to the discouraged Jews of His day: Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). This invitation is offered today to everyone through the gospel message.

Lesson 16: Christian Stewardship
When we by faith accept Christ as our personal Savior we not only pass from death to life, or from condemnation to justification, but we also change our spiritual citizenship from this doomed world under Satan and become citizens of heaven, the kingdom of God. Therefore, as Christians we are God's stewards, entrusted by Him with time and opportunities, abilities and possessions, and the blessings of the earth and its resources. True Christian stewardship is a privilege given to us by God for nurture in love and the victory over selfishness and covetousness.

Lesson 17: The State of the Dead
One of the questions that is uppermost in the minds of many is “What happens when one dies?” Many pagan religions and especially Greek mythology teach that the soul of man is immortal. Unfortunately, this idea of an immortal soul was borrowed from the Greeks by the early Church Fathers and made a part of Christianity. However, it may surprise you that nowhere in the Bible is this idea found.

Lesson 18: Spiritual Gifts
When the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in a believer, He also bestows upon that believer one or more spiritual gifts. These gifts correspond to the function the Holy Spirit has chosen for the believer in the body of Christ, the church. In this study, we will discover that the purpose of these gifts is not for the benefit of the individual believer but of the church as a whole.

Lesson 19: Christian Lifestyle
In this study we will consider what the Bible has to say about our bodies and how we should take care of them while we wait for His return. This, too, is part of Christian living, the fruits of the gospel. In order that we may fully represent Him, we must not only take care of our bodies so that we may be fit vessels for God’s use, but also represent Him in the way we dress and in our lifestyle.
