Warning—Do not engage with demons in the 2nd heavens unless directly authorized by the Lord!!
We can infer that there are at least 3 heavens by reading the following verse:
II Cor 12 (v. 2) I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago....was caught up to the third heaven. (v. 4) how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words....
When the Earth was created by the Lord, it was inserted into a realm with three heavens. The 1st heavens describe the atmosphere covering the Earth:
Psm 104 (v. 1) Oh Lord my God, You are very great.... (v. 5) You who laid the foundations of the earth.... (v. 6) You covered it with the deep.... (v. 9) You have set a boundary that they may not pass over.... (v. 12) By them the birds of the heavens have their habitation....
So, the 1st heavens are where the birds dwell and fly around! The 2nd heavens are described in the book of Isaiah:
Isa 13 (v. 6) Wail, for the day of the Lord is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.... (v. 10) For the stars of heaven and their constellations will not give their light....
So, the 2nd heavens is where the stars, moon, and planets are located, just outside of our atmosphere. And the 3rd heavens is also described in the book of Revelation:
Rev 11 (v. 19) Then the temple of God was opened in heaven, and the ark of His covenant was seen in His temple. And there were lightnings, noises, thunderings....
So the 3rd heavens, where the Apostle Paul went to in Paradise, is where the Lord God Almighty and Jesus dwell, along with the heavenly angels.
Now we know at this time, that there are no fallen angels located in the 3rd heavens, because of what happened in the book of Revelation:
Rev 12 (v. 7) And war broke out in heaven.... (v. 8) ....nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. (v. 9) So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the devil and satan, who deceives the whole world....and his angels were cast out with him.
So that leaves us with the 2nd heavens and the atmosphere around the Earth, called the 1st heavens.
The first thing you need to know from our Bible is that there really are higher-ranking demons in Satan’s kingdom who are controlling much of the evil activity that occurs on our earth from these 2nd heaven positions.[1] Another author states it this way: “The devil and his principalities (high-ranking evil spirits), who run the first and second heavens, and the junior “ground-level” demons, who operate on the earth today, have one mission: to capture your mind in a way that brings you to the point of no return.”[2]
Satan has his demonic kingdom divided up into what the Bible calls principalities, powers, and rulers of darkness. Here is the verse:
Eph 6 (v. 12) For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
....many Bible scholars believe that the words, “principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual hosts of wickedness” are referring to some of Satan’s higher-ranking demons who are in these 2nd heaven positions. The reason they believe this is due to the last four words – “in the heavenly places.”[1]
We know that God has permitted satan to linger around the earth in the 1st heavens also, because of another verse in Ephesians:
Eph 2 (v. 2) in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience.
Put these two verses right next to one another like two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, and I believe the Lord is giving all of us major revelation in that Satan does have some kind of structure in place with his demonic army, and part of this structure is with these higher-ranking demons who do have definite positions in the heavenlies, in the 2nd heaven.[1]
The fallen angels working down here in the first heavens are typically called earthbound demons. These are the demons described in the Bible as attacking people or trying to posses them.
What many deliverance ministers have found out is that many of these earth-bound demons are taking direct orders from these higher-ranking demons who are in these 2nd heaven positions.[1]
And not only do these higher-ranking demons control some of the action down here with demons who are assigned to certain individuals, but these second heaven demons are also controlling the action over certain geographical areas on our earth.[1]
The bible does in fact tell us that we do have authority to engage in spiritual warfare against demons:
Luke 10 (v. 19) Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy....
A clue to which realm that authority applies to, is in the choice of words that are used in this verse. Rather than tell us we have “authority over demons” we are told that we have “authority over serpents and scorpions” which are confined to this earth bound planet; they don’t exist in the atmosphere nor in outer-space.
When you study the Gospel accounts of Jesus and the apostles taking on demonic spirits, they were only taking on demons who were on the inside of people. There is not one verse in the Bible that I am aware of where Jesus or one of His apostles were taking on any demons who were operating in the 2nd heaven.[1]
Christians battle against 2nd heaven demons differently than they do with earthbound demons that attempt to attack people in the 1st heavens realm.
>>>>> “How to fight against these types of demons” <<<<<
It is interesting to note, in his book: “Needless Casualties of War” by John Paul Jackson, the author accounts several people from different churches contacting him about some unusual events like, sudden illnesses, untimely deaths, multiple miscarriages, and several heart attacks; beyond what would be considered normally occurring during our lifetime, for a church congregation.
When he started to investigate why these types of attacks were occurring in some of these churches way beyond what would be considered normal, he found out that they were trying to directly engage with these higher-ranking, 2nd heaven demons who were ruling over certain geographical areas. He also found out that they were not directly authorized by the Lord to be doing this type of special work for Him at the time they were doing it.[1]
As a result of directly engaging with these principalities and powers without God’s direct permission and approval, they stepped outside the bounds of their spiritual authority with Him and opened themselves up to major demonic attacks from some of these higher-ranking, 2nd heaven demons. Then once they confessed and repented of this activity before the Lord, the demonic attacks immediately stopped and order was restored in their lives.[1]
In his book, Mr. Jackson equates fighting these high-level demons in the 2nd heavens, as to someone who would foolishly try to hit the moon with a hatchet!!
To attack principalities and powers over a geographic area can be as useless as throwing hatchets at the moon. And it can leave you open to unforeseen and unperceived attacks. God’s words echoed in my mind. These leaders did not foresee principalities counterattacking them. They believed they were doing something great for God. They failed to comprehend the nature of the enemy’s authority to retaliate with fierceness.[3]
During my research on this topic, I came across another book entitled “Keep the Pigs Out” by Don Dickerman; in which there was a story recorded about a young minister who tried to bind and cast down a 2nd heaven demon who was controlling a certain geographical area and intersection where a lot of bad car accidents were occurring.
As a young minister, Jay accepted a call to a church in Youngstown, Ohio. He and his family were trying to follow the call of God in their life. With spiritual zeal, Jay was following what he had been taught and was out to stop the territorial demons in their tracks. He recalls that a particular intersection in the city of Youngstown had an unusual amount of bad car accidents.[4]
He passed that intersection daily going to and from his church. He said that one day as he went through the intersection, he decided to command the demons to stop their activity of violence there. He tells of this incident with some awe in his voice. He said, “I began to bind the demons that caused the wrecks and created the actions that brought so much damage and hurt to people. I was giving commands right and left.”[4]
“Suddenly I felt a presence so strong that I had to pull my car over, and I was becoming sick to my stomach.” I heard the Holy Spirit speak to my mind, “I’m going to protect you this time, but don’t ever do that again.” He was trembling from the experience. He wasn’t sure what this was all about. As he prayed, he said it became clear that in ignorance he had stepped out of his spiritual realm of authority.[4]
As he continued to learn from this experience, he found that at that very intersection there had been a history of violence. Union and nonunion workers had clashed on several occasions. There also had been murder committed in other situations. He learned that particular demons had gained rights because of what happened in the past. Jay says, “I learned that I should never enter into warfare with demons powers in the heavens. I pray for God’s protection and intervention in situations, but I don’t go after territorial spirits.…ever.”[4]
Based on all of this evidence, we can conclude then, that we only have jurisdiction over the evil spirits that inhabit the earth and the 1st heavens. We are not authorized to assail or confront the principalities that satan has set up over territories, nor attack the rulers and dominions that remain in the 2nd heavens.
