Let us reconcile the “big” question which is in the back of everybody's mind?
I Jn 4 (v. 7) ....for love is of God.... (v. 8) ....for God is love. (v. 9) In this the love of God was manifested toward us.... (v. 11) ....if God so loved us....
If God is love, then how can He execute this “Hell Fire”?
Isa 28 (v. 21) For the Lord shall rise up....that he may do His work, His strange work; and bring to pass His act, His strange act.
The work of destroying the wicked in Hell-Fire is so foreign to God’s nature that the Bible calls it His “strange” act.
The bible does not picture an angry God tormenting sinners. It presents a righteous, holy, just God, cleansing the universe from the consequences of sin. The most loving act a gracious Lord could do!...Out of the ashes of a charred world, cleansed from the deadly virus of sin, God recreates a new world. A world where weeping is heard no more.[1]
The work of God has always been to save men, but this one act is executed in order to end the Great Controversy!!
The aim of the great rebel has ever been to justify himself and to prove the divine government responsible for the rebellion....For thousands of years this chief of conspiracy has palmed off falsehood for truth. But the time has now come when the rebellion is to be finally defeated and the history and character of Satan disclosed.[2]
In his last great effort to dethrone Christ, destroy His people, and take possession of the City of God, the Arch Deceiver has been fully unmasked. Those who have united with him see the total failure of his cause. Christ's followers and the loyal angels behold the full extent of his machinations against the government of God. He is the object of universal abhorrence.[2]
Notwithstanding that Satan has been constrained to acknowledge God's justice and to bow to the supremacy of Christ, his character remains unchanged. The spirit of rebellion, like a mighty torrent, again bursts forth. Filled with frenzy, he determines not to yield the great controversy. The time has come for a last desperate struggle against the King of heaven. He rushes into the midst of his subjects and endeavors to inspire them with his own fury and arouse them to instant battle....[2] ( Rev 20:7-9 )
Rev 20 (v. 7) Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison (v. 8) and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. (v. 9) They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city....
Who ends the Great Controversy?.......Who starts the Hell-Fire?.......Who executes this Final Judgment?.....
Saith the Lord: "Because thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God; behold...."I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. . . .I will cast thee to the ground. . . .I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. . . .and never shalt thou be any more." (Ezekiel 28:6-8, 16-19).[3]
"The indignation of the Lord is upon all nations, and His fury upon all their armies....
Upon the wicked He shall rain quick burning coals, fire and brimstone....this shall be the portion of their cup." (Isaiah 9:5; 34:2; Psalm 11:6), margin. Fire comes down from God out of heaven. The earth is broken up....[3]
Rev 20 (v. 9) ....And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.
(v. 10) The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone....
Notice that the fire comes down from God out of heaven. Hell is not a hot spot burning in the center of the earth. Hell is not some subterranean cavern imprisoning the lost who are tormented....Hell is God's final judgment at the end of this world as we now know it.[4]
Isa 34 (v. 8) For it is the day of the Lord's vengeance....
Devouring flames burst from every yawning chasm. The very rocks are on fire. The day has come that shall burn as an oven. The elements melt with fervent heat, the earth also, and the works that are therein are burned up. (Malachi 4:1; 2 Peter 3:10). The earth's surface seems one molten mass--a vast, seething lake of fire. It is the time of the judgment and perdition of ungodly men--"the day of the Lord's vengeance" (Isaiah 34:8).[3]
II Pet 3 (v. 7) But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved....are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. (v. 10) But the day of the Lord will come....in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
What will be left when this Hell Fire goes out?
Mal 4 (v. 3) You shall trample the wicked, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet; On the day that I do this, says the Lord of hosts.
When will this happen?
Mal 4 (v. 1) For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, and all the proud, yes all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts.
Only stubble and ashes will be left over when the Hell Fire goes out!
So, the devil is not in charge of this Hell Fire; no but rather he is going to be destroyed in it!! Praise the Lord.
Rev 20 (v. 10) And the devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone....
Satan and his angels suffered long. Satan bore not only the weight and punishment of his own sins, but also of the sins of the redeemed host, which had been placed upon him; and he must also suffer for the ruin of souls which he had caused. Then I saw that Satan and all the wicked host were consumed, and the justice of God was satisfied.[5]
