What Can You Do About It?

The more you reaffirm who you are in Christ, the more your behavior will begin to   reflect your true identity.[1]

II Cor 3  (v. 18) And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his likeness from one degree for glory to another; for this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.  [RSV]

One of the greatest ways to help yourself grow into maturity in Christ is to continually

remind yourself who you are in Him....do this by reading the "Who Am I" list aloud....

Read the list once or twice a day for a week or two.  Read it when you think satan is   trying to deceive you into believing you are a worthless failure.[1]

Gal 2  (v. 20) I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

....for we are in Him, and He is in us when we know Jesus Christ as Savior.  This is part of our identity in Christ, and the source of what is available, by faith, to us that know Him.  As a believer, God’s awesome power and authority is the very essence that courses throughout our being.  The believer can stand in God’s power....[2]

Countless numbers of christians struggle with their day-to-day behavior because they labor under a false perception of who they are.  They consider themselves sinners who hope to make it into heaven by God's grace, but they can't seem to live above their sinful tendencies.[3]

When a believer chooses to live in sin and not submit to God, he gives up his Christ-given authority to satan.  When a believer lives in ignorance with regards to his position in Christ, he gives up his Christ-given authority to satan.  When a believer chooses to believe the enemy’s lies over that truth of what God has said, he gives up his Christ-given authority to satan.  You must know God’s Word, the truth, to be able to recognize a lie of satan.[4]

Col 2  (v. 8) Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

You must believe you are a child of God to live like a child of God.  God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.[5]

Col 1  (v. 27) To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

What your constant focus needs to be on:

How can you hope to "stand firm against the schemes of the devil" (eph 6:11) if you have not internalized that you are already victoriously "raised....up with Him, and seated....with Him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus" (eph 2:6).[6]

Eph 2  (v. 4) But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, (v. 5) even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ.... (v. 6) and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

As a believer, you need to know who you are in Christ.  You also must learn to see and accept yourself as God sees and accepts you.  You are no longer....deserving of death, or separated from God....Nor are you condemned or guilty!  These types of things are lies from the enemy to keep you a prisoner.  Accepting these lies keeps you walking and acting outside of the true nature of a child of God.[7]

Col  3  (v. 9) ....you have put off the old man with his deeds, (v. 10) and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.

The Issue that needs to be dealt with first:

Getting right with God always begins with settling once and for all the fact that God is your loving father and you are His accepted child.  That is the foundational truth from which you live.[8]

I  Jn 3  (v. 1) Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!

Real love is just the opposite of what we see in the world around us.…total giving is total loving!  Love is never about satisfying self, nor is it about receiving for oneself.  It’s never about accumulating or hoarding.…which is just the opposite of what man thinks.[9]

John 15  (v. 13) Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

Sacrifice is the highest measure of love: when a man gives his life, he holds nothing back, he gives all he has and is.  It is this our Lord Jesus wants to make clear to us concerning the mystery of His Vine.[10]  This constant giving is why Jesus pictures Himself as the Vine.  Why?  Because the Vine is constantly giving the sap, which is its lifeblood.…This illustrates how God gives because it is His nature to give.[11]

I  Jn 3  (v. 16) By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

When you are strong one moment and weak the next, God still loves you.  God's love for you is the great eternal

constant in the midst of all the inconsistencies of  your daily walk.[12]

I  Jn 4  (v. 9) In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. (v. 10) In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Central to all sin is the failure to love God fully and to submit ourselves in obedience to His divine will and purpose for our lives....Submitting is the very key in having victory over sin and demons....Total submission to the Lordship of Jesus Christ means giving your whole self....You need to be dead to yourself and let Christ live through you.[13]

I  Jn 4  (v. 4) You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

One reason we doubt God's love is that we have an adversary who uses every little offense to accuse us of being good-   for-nothings....No matter what you do or how you fail, God will still love you because the love of God is not dependent   upon its object; it is dependent upon His character.[14]

Rom 5  (v. 8) But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Actually, you already have everything you need to make you happy forever.  You have Christ.  You have eternal life.  You are loved by a heavenly father who has promised to supply all your needs.[15]

I  Tim 6  (v. 6) But godliness with contentment is great gain. (v. 7) For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.

(v. 8) And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.

Many christians don't feel saved, don't feel God loves them because of old thoughts raised against the knowledge of God....When we tear down those strongholds and take every thought captive in obedience to Christ, our emotions will begin to conform to the reality of God's love.[16]

II  Cor 10  (v. 4) For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,

(v. 5) casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.

Remember:  If what we think does not reflect truth, then what we feel does not reflect reality.[16]
